Buerger Exercise Reduces the Risk of Neuropathy in People with Diabetes Mellitus

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) remains the major global health problem, predicted to exceed half a billion people in 2040. One of complications was lower extremity neuropathy leading foot ulcer and amputation. This study aimed investigate effect routine Buerger exercise on index with DM. Methods: A pre-and posttest quasi-experimental between May August 2018 involving DM patients primary centre conducted. They were prospectively recruited either be allocated into intervention group where monitored performed or control standard education Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI) subjective objective measurement used evaluate index. Results: Seventy-seven participants (63 females) mean age 58.2±7.2 years completed similar characteristics. Mean pretest MNSI score for 3.8±1.7 3.9±1.6 respectively, not different (P = 0.561). At end follow up, significant decrease observed (2.8±2.2, P 0.011) but (4.0±1.9, P=0.947). Physical examination according guideline showed reduction from 1.8±1.4 at start 1.3±1.1 (P< 0.001), this seen group. Conclusion: had beneficial improving symptoms high risk diabetic ulcer.
